A hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy that adds heated stones to the body during the massage. The rocks that are normally used in this type of massage are river rocks. These stones are heated on a stone heater which looks like a crockpot.

The massage therapist keeps the rocks in the warmer until they are ready to be placed on the body.

There is a technique for performing a hot stone massage. First, a massage therapist will massage your body with oil to loosen any tight muscles. Once your body is less tense, a therapist will take the stones from the heater and cool them down.
